It puts forward an exaggerated depiction of the flower to showcase it in all its glory. Our first pick for a calla lily tattoo is this flowy, whimsical, line art that moves away from distracting details to highlight the pleasurable shape of the flower itself. Of course, artistic and creative experiments can multiply the appeal of the plainest of flowers. However, the lily is a naturally elegant beauty with its slender stem, delicately curving petals, and prominent stamens. Take a look at these lily tattoo ideas that use only the basic flower body and yet have an arresting presence. Now, armed with what different lily flower tattoos might mean, let us take a look at a host of tattoo designs we have compiled for you.

It’s a design that subtly whispers the story of balance and harmony, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate these concepts. An ink design featuring lily and jasmine flowers, butterflies, and a hummingbird is a celebration of nature’s beauty. The lily stands for purity, the jasmine for love and sensuality, the butterfly for transformation, and the hummingbird for joy and positivity.

Smart color choices for accent shading can use other colors to make the flower look white. The highlight is done using tiny white lines but overall, the use of white ink is minimal. The use of a full moon adds its own meaning to this tattoo which mostly represents feminine energy. Calla lilies have a unique, trumpet-shaped flower head that narrows down gracefully to its stem into a slender wine glass silhouette. These glossy flowers symbolize purity, devotion, elegance, mystery, remembrance, and comfort.

Their shape can be stylized in several innovative ways for awe-inspiring lily tattoo designs. Lily flower tattoos are the epitome of feminine grace, refinement, and resilience. This flower comes in a range of gorgeous varieties, each with distinct visual features and a unique charm of its own. Each type of lily, with its rich hues and shapely contours, can make for the perfect body art. Although lilies are generally a preferred choice for women, there is no rule that men cannot get them if they wish! It all boils down to one’s creative vision and choice of design to find the ideal customization of a lily flower tattoo art.

Again, the most important aspect of any tattoo is its personal significance to you. Working with a professional tattoo artist can help you create a design that fits your style, represents your chosen symbolism, and stays current with the latest trends. Imagine a radiant floral tattoo, featuring hues of blue, green, and pink ink, gracing your wrist. This section explores the allure of petite tattoos that capture the essence of nature’s vibrant palette while representing life, growth, and change. Hence, the red lily flower tattoo is the eternal symbol of love. It can stand for the passionate love that you have in your heart and can reflect how much of a passionate person you are.

36 Fireplace Decor Ideas Modern Fireplace Mantel Decor

With ample space for bookshelves on either side of this homeowner's smaller firebox, the open storage could become a visual distraction from the rest of the room. But by installing the firebox in a marble wall that's wider and taller than the shelves, the space feels like a spot to relax and let your eyes rest. Watts used an art piece from the client's existing collection over the firebox to center the space. A fireplace in the dining room is the ideal way to end the day on a high note. But even if you don't have an existing built-in fireplace, you can still enjoy the feel with a faux fireplace. Simply install a mantel, a threshold and add decorative logs or a set of candles.

Temper Bright Patterns

Place tall lamps on either side of the fireplace to serve as functional yet beautiful statement pieces. A fireplace is just as much a piece of decor as it is a functional element meant to warm you up on cold days. If you have a non-working fireplace, take advantage of the space, depth, and levels and decorate it with all of your potted plants for real juxtaposition. Especially in rooms with low ceilings, a dark fireplace can make a room feel cavelike and dated.

Spending a few years in the newsroom, Faiza also previously worked for Sky News as an SEO reporter, where she produced stories based on trending topics. Her passion for writing goes beyond her work as she loves all things poetry and creative writing. If you want to add some contrast in your backyard, why not mix and match your furniture around the firepit? 'This firepit is nestled behind a gorgeous Mid-Century Modern home in Sausalito. Inspired by the textures and structure of DNM Architecture’s comprehensive renovation, the owners added this semi-covered firepit using commercially available materials.

Integrating firewood storage is a space-saving fireplace idea that ensures you're always ready to throw another log on the flames. Storing firewood in a nook beside the fireplace eliminates the need to find a place for the wood elsewhere. The rounded design of this fireplace by Enviable Designs is a gentle contrast to the sharper lines of most mantels and surrounds.

Trends come and go, which is why keeping decor to a minimum can create a look that will be timeless and classic. Add a few decor pieces to either side of the mantel and finish the look with a charming container for firewood. To keep things cohesive with your current decor style, we've rounded up 50 modern fireplaces that offer the best of both worlds. Building a mantel from salvaged materials is eco-friendly and gives the fireplace an aged, one-of-a-kind look. The sleek, contemporary fireplace paired with the wood mantel gives the room a cozy feel that seamlessly incorporates the best of old and new. A wood mantel nods to wood tones repeated elsewhere in the room, but its simple design keeps the focus on the stunning slate.

Layered Materials

Use reclaimed wood to build a new surround and mantel that matches your decorating style. Finish off the look with vintage decor and a mantel centerpiece, such as a mirror or art piece. Paint your fireplace the same color as your walls to really make your decor pop. This design technique is called color drenching, and it's having a major moment right now. Add contrasting photos and decorations to the mantel and surroundings to indulge in the trending maximalist interior design style.

Tile All Over

But if you want to create a lighter look, pair the crimson material with light-color walls. Here, white board-and-batten walls mesh with a traditional brick fireplace surround to create a high-contrast effect. Open floor plans are a staple of modern homes but can sometimes limit the cozy factor.

Gray is a versatile color that can can lean warm or cool, so it fits with almost any color scheme. If your living area is mostly white, painting your fireplace gray will give great contrast without sacrificing the neutral color scheme. Making a rental feel like home can be tough when there are strict rules in place about decorating. If you aren't permitted to paint the walls of your rental home, add your personal touch by brightening up the area with colorful mantel decor. Hang lightweight artwork around the fireplace using command strips so you don't damage the wall. A simple white fireplace is a perfect addition to this quaint, pastel-toned living room.

Painting the walls and crown molding the same shade of blue-gray—and incorporating a similar shade into the mantel decor, side chair, and lamp—allow this fireplace surround's impressive stonework to stand out. In the more formal parlor of the same townhouse, Boozer pairs modern seating and metallic accent pieces with a marble table and abstract rug—all of which complement the elaborate marble fireplace surround. If you have more of a traditional fireplace that is looking on the tired side, give it a fresh new look for fall with a coat of paint. Pick a color that's going to contrast your walls so it becomes more of a feature in the room. That doesn't have to mean going for a bold color – here this clean, bright white still pops against the light grey of the walls.

For a look as groovy as it is graceful, consider a cone fireplace, à la this corner in designer Carol Egan’s midcentury-modern dream house. Because it’s freestanding, this fireplace (which is original to the house) allowed Egan to create a bold gallery wall directly behind it. Indeed, we’ve been seeing mantels trend bolder (dare we say hotter?) than ever before, but as designer Timothy Godbold cautions, you might want to think twice before playing too much with fire. She previously worked for The Independent as a News Feature Writer, where she wrote articles on lifestyle, entertainment, news and more.

Although there are minimal decorations, the stone around the fireplace steals the show by flowing seamlessly down through the hearth. Whether you're looking to update an original structure or add one to your contemporary build, here's proof you don't have to sacrifice cozy vibes in the name of clean lines. While fireplaces are technically meant to be warm and cozy, there's no reason they can't also be cool and contemporary. Similar curves in the flower-like design on the black gate separate the firebox from the rest of the room. Bolognino surrounded this fireplace with traditional molding and plenty of storage—including both square and rectangular shelf compartments that turn the homeowners' books into a dynamic visual accent. A fireplace in a library makes it the perfect place to curl up with a good book and a toasty fire.

The big round-top table and the brightly-coloured bean bags provide just the right setting for evening chill-out sessions with family or guests. This modern fireplace design uses an electric heater that looks like a wood-burning fireplace without real fire. A wall-mounted fireplace with a sleek, simple look fits well with this bedroom’s minimalist color scheme and modern design. The TV above the fireplace echoes the black firebox both in shape and color, which helps it blend in and appear less distracting. A chunky wood mantel brings in warmth, introduces a new material, and breaks up all the cool tones in the room.

Three Fields, a 9,000-square-foot home completed in 1930, will host this year’s showhouse, which will benefit the Institute of Bioskills Training and Innovation at Morristown Medical Center. So the only way we’re going to be able to move forward is if you will respect our rules and we’ll respect your point of view. Something is not connecting with those two points of view. And as if that’s not hard enough, you then have Congress and the political system with its own agenda coming in and putting its thumb on a scale of an already very difficult situation.

Neutrals

And so in my time of being a reporter, of being an editor, I’ve overseen several protests. And I’ve never seen Columbia penalize a group for, quote, unquote, not authorizing a protest. So that was certainly, in our minds, unprecedented. And that’s of a Middle Eastern studies professor named Joseph Massad. He wrote an essay not long after Hamas invaded Israel and killed 1,200 people, according to the Israeli government, where he described that attack with adjectives like awesome. Now, he said they’ve been misinterpreted, but a lot of people have taken offense to those comments.

The HISTORY of “EYES ON DESIGN CAR SHOW”EyesOn Design was founded in 1987 with the support of the design heads of GM, Ford, and Chrysler as an automotive exhibition judged exclusively by automotive designers. The event celebrates automotive design with an exclusive group of designers, collectors, manufacturers, suppliers, and the general public. The Crackdown on Student Protesters

And set up an encampment in the middle of campus, no matter what the rules say. So students who aren’t feeling safe in this protest environment don’t necessarily have to go to class. Columbia’s campus is so known for its activism.

This is a university that has both one of the largest Jewish student populations of any of its peers. But it also has a large Arab and Muslim student population, a big Middle Eastern studies program. "Kitchens are more fun when they're decorated with as much personality as other rooms in the home," says Lexington, Kentucky, interior designer Isabel Ladd, who took that idea to heart when designing the pictured cooking space. "Kitchens don't look so 'kitchen-y' when striking wallpaper is applied in lieu of backsplash, the ceiling is given special treatment, and when a light fixture is anything but ordinary." Monique Valeris is the home design director for Good Housekeeping, where she oversees the brand's home decorating coverage across print and digital. Prior to joining GH in 2020, she was the digital editor at Elle Decor.

"I'm loving the coziness of terracotta, chocolate brown, and ochre paired with cheery blues and acidic greens." Widen your angle at NAB Show, the preeminent event for the entire broadcast, media and entertainment industry. Where a panoramic view of the content lifecycle pairs with zoomed-in education and a swell of emerging tech and tools.

In 2020, Boucle started to become popular in higher concept designs. By 2022, boucle sofas and chairs were available at most national retailers. Every single company is offering something in white currently but I'm starting to see it evolve into less-expected neutrals and muted colors. These palettes are a great starting point for unexpected color palettes,” says Amy Pigliacampo of Amy Pigliacampo Interiors. “Open floor plans that work smarter and can be easily divided into zones as needed, and for new construction, this will mean layouts that already incorporate flexible rooms that can be turned into offices or gyms. For some people, open concept works simply by installing sliding doors or including chairs that swivel so they can face the sofa for a hearty conversation or turn toward the television for movie night,” explains Holland.

Well, they remain under investigation by the committee. But also, as the winter wears on, all the same intense protests just continue unabated. So in many ways, Columbia’s like these other campuses.

And right off the bat, they’re put through a pretty humbling litany of some of the worst hits of what’s been happening on campus. Columbia stands guilty of gross negligence at best and at worst has become a platform for those supporting terrorism and violence against the Jewish people. But presumably, she is well aware of exactly what testifying before this committee entails and is highly prepared. Members of Congress start calling for their resignations. Trustees of the University start to wonder, I don’t know that these leaders really have got this under control. And eventually, both of them lose their jobs in a really high profile way.

our STORY

Many of the dishes enjoyed in Hawai’i today, such as pipikaula, laulau, kalua pig, poke, tripe stew, loco moco, and Spam musubi (a delicious pantheon best described in Sean Na’auao’s classic 1998 song, “Fish and Poi”), are living documents of the former sovereign kingdom’s beautiful yet brutal history. Ancient Hawaiians cultivated taro, breadfruit, and sweet potatoes and discovered ingenious uses for fish, limu (edible underwater plants), and other bounties of the sea. European sailors and missionaries introduced cattle and livestock to the islands in 1778, in addition to disease-spreading fleas and viral infections. It’s the perfect way to cool down and beat the summer heat. At Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha (HOPA), the shaved ice comes in a bowl of delicious fruity syrup topped with things such as the signature sweet dream sauce, locally made ice cream from Lalamilo Farms, fresh fruit, mochi or adzuki beans. Small, locally made snacks including li hing mui seeds, cuttlefish or even taro chips are also available if you need a quick bite..

After serving hundreds of thousands of bowls of shave ice to guests at The "Original" Uncle Clay's HOPA, Uncle Clay and Bronson were asked to stretch their wings and grow the dream to reach even more people. So in 2018, HOPA opened its second House at the most destined place in all of Hawai'i--Ala Moana Center--serving a new community there the same beloved shave ice, an expanded menu of locally made ice cream and other treats, and of course a whole lot of Pure Aloha. In 2020, due to challenges with COVID-19, HOPA Ala Moana was forced to close. Today, nearly 40,000 Native Hawaiians call Los Angeles home (an impressive stat beaten only by Las Vegas, Hawai’i’s unofficial “ninth island”). And it’s the islands’ former residents, like the Big Island’s Maile and Bruce Goold, or Kevin Lee, who grew up working in his family’s Korean restaurant Sorabol in Honolulu, who make eating Kahuku-style fried shrimp, shave ice, and saimin so enjoyable on the Mainland. From bowling alley diners to poke shacks, here are the 11 best Hawaiian restaurants in LA.

The simple words spoken by a young little boy named Clay growing up in a small neighborhood in Hawai’i… and marking the beginning of a dream that has turned into so much more.

Mauna Loa® joins fellow local brand Kahala to bring the Aloha spirit to the mainland with a pop-up shop at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. The two Hawai‘i brands team up to give Angelenos a chance to experience Hawaiʻi with Kahala’s line of aloha apparel and Mauna Loa’s delicious macadamia snacks. The two-month, pop-up event will feature Kahala’s signature apparel, including its Collector’s Edition — a limited series of aloha shirts, featuring iconic 1940s heritage designs and made from rayon filament fabric by the same Japanese mills that produced Kahala’s original shirts.

With the same love and spirit of his Uncle, Bronson took Uncle Clay around the shoulders, "This dream is too important. We can't give up". Get them while they last; limited time signed Oaths. This restaurant has been reported as permanently closed. Just when it seemed there was no choice and Uncle Clay was being forced to close the doors to his dreams, his nephew, Bronson, stepped in. Eventually, rising rents and shifting economic conditions had drained all of the earthly resources Uncle Clay had. But his spirit of Pure Aloha and his love for every guest, neighbor, and friend never cracked.

11 Essential Hawaiian Restaurants to Try in Los Angeles

“We were absolutely thrilled when Kahala approached us to partner with them in their pop-up. We are both heritage Hawaiʻi brands with rich histories, still evolving through innovation and new partnerships to stay relevant and fresh, while being authentic to Hawaiʻi. The collaboration with them is a match made in paradise,” says Danielle Laubenstein, Director of Global Marketing for Mauna Loa.

One of the few Hawaiian restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, Aloha Food Factory has been serving homestyle favorites in a blue-brick shack off the 710 freeway since 1994 — even fending off extinction in 2021, when predatory developers planned to turn the beloved Alhambra institution into a car wash. Don’t miss the macadamia nut pancakes, a short but mighty stack slathered in a “secret cream sauce” (their words) that tastes like a big, ol’ dollop of cream cheese frosting made of whipped bananas and a Jack Johnson song. HOPA re-revolutionized Hawaii’s iconic snack by going back to its origins.

Uncle Clay: "Your" Hawaiian Uncle

Using only premium all-natural ingredients for homemade syrups and locally made ice cream. The move at Rutt’s Cafe — one of Los Angeles’ longest-running Hawaiian restaurants with outposts in West LA, Azusa, and Gardena — is to arrive for breakfast. Since 1976, this Hawaiian restaurant has been serving local favorites, like Spam and eggs, and a kalua pig breakfast sandwich served over a sweet roll.

Marketing of a business cannot occur well without some aspect of graphic design. Sometimes the right visual to use for the style of your design is an illustration. This works very well on packaging, posters, and even social media graphics.

Articles:How To Use Images In Your Digital Marketing

What sets the profession apart is that specific data points influence some rules while others are purely human instincts. They help distinguish design pieces from each other while ensuring that they follow the fundamental laws of design. The below image shows a site translated to Hungarian via Google Translate. You’ll see the calls-to-action aren’t HTML – instead, they’re images that include the text, which means the text can’t be translated. It’s also best practice not to add text directly to an image, but to  instead work with your web team to overlay responsive text on the image.

“How long does the course take to complete?”

Unity adds order and makes a piece feel like a coherent whole, instead of a messy combination of individual parts that just so happen to exist on the same page. Notice how the most important parts like the logo and navigation menu are at the top, while the secondary information like clients and chatbot is at the bottom. There’s a logo at the top, a menu at the top, and then elements in descending order of importance below. Whether you're creating a digital flipbook or designing your next round of paper design flyers, proportions are key. So while repetition can just help you make a sweet iPhone wallpaper, it’s a crucial tool for any company looking to build a visual identity and brand recognition.

When a layout has no white space, it makes it harder to know what to focus on and can add extra tension to a design. Here are each of the fundamentals of graphic design so you can become a well-rounded and professional graphic designer. However before you can learn these more advanced skills, every designer must first learn and master the fundamentals of graphic design. Now that you have learned to understand these important art terms , you should practice incorporating them into your own creative work.

The Basic Principles of Graphic Design: Overview

Unity in design and style is essential for the success of your design. If you have a hero visual in your design and want it to be at the center of your communication, give it its own space and write your content on a solid patch — this is contrast. Any seasoned designer would tell you that emphasis can make or break an advertisement. To know what element needs emphasis, you must address the purpose of the creative.

Color Theory in Graphic Design

Balanced designs tend to appear calm, stable and natural, while imbalanced designs make us feel uneasy. When we’re designing websites, we can make use of a grid for achieving a sense of unity, since elements organised in a grid will follow an orderly arrangement. We do need, however, to introduce some variety in our work in order to strike a balance between a boring and a chaotic design. Unity has to do with creating a sense of harmony between all elements in a page. A page with elements that are visually or conceptually arranged together will likely create a sense of unity. Colour theory is a branch of design focused on the mixing and usage of different colours in design and art.

White spaces can be miracle workers if used intellectually because they have the power to give your customers visual relief, especially when taking in large portions of information. In a way, proportions are similar to balance, but it is measured more from the human eye than with guidelines and grids on design software. Proportions are realistic estimates and weights you apply to your content. Often underplayed as a designer’s pet peeve, balance is as essential as the quality of the design itself.

Contrast can also be used to guide people’s actions; to let people know what you want them to do. If you want to increase ‘click-through,’ make sure that there’s a strong contrast between the call-to-action button and the rest of the design. Designers use a Z-pattern for layouts with less text and more visuals. With this pattern, viewers scan across the top of the page and then diagonally down towards the opposite corner.

This graphic design basic is a vital part of any design because it helps to communicate a concept that the viewers need to read and understand. Choosing the correct typography can make the difference between conveying the right mood and not. Without graphic design, things look dull, amateur, and boring. It is not something that any business owner that knows Photoshop can start creating. It is an acquired skill with rules that require lots of practice to master.

Sticking with these guidelines may feel really limiting at first, but once you get really familiar with them, you will see your designs getting a serious boost. The design principles of rhythm and movement are closely related and easily confused. The principle of movement refers to the overall sense of motion found within an artwork.

Movement is the path the viewer’s eye takes through the work of art or design. Movement can guide the viewer to focal areas or create the look or feeling of action. This male Indian peacock splays it's train into a fan-like formation which fills the entirety of the frame. Focusing on the bird's body as the center point it's plumage is an example of radial symmetry. We can also see repetition of this type of symmetry in the eyespots along each feather as well as the white lines of light that shine through from behind the bird.

Serving the North Coast's finest fresh seafood and freshwater fare since 1973. Brennan's Fish House is proud to offer delicacies from fresh oysters and sea scallops, succulent crab legs, shrimp, scampi, and more. Enjoy fresh lake walleye and yellow perch caught right in our own backyard.

On the whole it seems that the Berkley ‘Fish House’ has been built as if it were a living organism, responding to outside stimuli. Just look at it, with its scales, fins, and gills one would almost expect it to start breathing.

In place of fat lumps of pricy seafood is a wild mash of shredded crab, herbs, seasoning and spice. You can enjoy it straight up as a starter, but I think it works better as a sandwich ($10.59), where the zing and zest are balanced by the bun. Other seafood starters include clam chowder, steamed mussels and a simple shrimp cocktail ($9.69), which benefits from a kicky horseradish-spiked cocktail sauce. That stellar perch (or walleye) dinner includes a mountain of hand-cut fries, creamy shredded coleslaw and housemade tartar sauce. All it needs a spritz of fresh lemon and a dash of malt vinegar to fully come to life. Fried clams should be ordered whenever and wherever they appear on a menu and Brennen's does them right.

Experiences

We have delicious turf as well, from juicy delmonico steaks, chicken, and more. In addition to the fried fish platters there are more elaborate seafood entrees like bouillabaisse, crab-stuffed shrimp, sauteed scallops, crab legs and shrimp linguini with sauce. Brennan's also goes through quite a bit of steak in the form of grilled 12-ounce Delmonicos from Certified Angus Beef. For dessert, there's banana cream pie, coconut cream pie and Key lime pie, all made here daily. And when you're on the hunt for fried lake fish, you will not find any fresher, better or more expertly prepared than what is being dished up right now at Brennan's Fish House in Grand River. On a typical weekend day and night, the modest restaurant will fly through approximately 250 pounds of the stuff.

Mom is passing the establishment along to her oldest son, who will continue to run it with his siblings, maintaining the neighborhood fixture for the next generation of seafood lovers. Hill purchased the business with her late husband Steve while she was a stay-at-home mom. She was working Friday night shifts at the restaurant as a hostess when she learned that the Brennans were looking to retire. She summoned the courage to jump in with both feet largely as a defensive move as she was terrified somebody would come in and change it, thus threatening the culture.

A total absence of seasoning, spice or even salt and pepper allows the flavor of the sweet, subtle, seasonal delight to shine through in all its glory. The building that houses Brennan's Fish House was built in 1865 at the end of the Civil War; it was built as a hotel called the Richmond Inn. It never really took off as a hotel so the owners put in pool tables and started selling beer & fish to the local fishermen. Maritime decor like buoys, marine charts, brass lanterns, wooden ship wheels and antique diving helmets weren't purchased on eBay — or purchased at all, for that matter, according to Hill. Brennan's Fish House has been in the surf-and-turf business since 1973, but the building dates back to 1865, when its keepers provided beers and beds to weary sailors and fishermen.
